Chapter #5: Interdictions and Interests

Everything was ready for the interdictions! The stage was set, the lights were hung, and the audience was lined up outside the doors in their fancy outfits. I had been practicing all week long for this. I know I can impress the crowd. I have to! Nothing is stopping me. Nothing! Except the thought of the Phantom. I still can't seem to shake that thought out of my head. Did I really see him or her? It had eyes and a mask, so it obviously wasn't an "it". I wonder… but I can't let that thought distract me. I have to focus on my violin playing. I have to!

The introduction began and the first singer went on stage. She was a purple cat in a white and light-purple dress. Her hair in a high pony-tail, and white gloves. Her name…. Ah now I remember. Blaze. I had met her in the entrance hall on my way to practice time with Ms. Amy. She began to sing when the conductor at the bottom of the stage waved a hand. She had such an amazing voice. Like a princess singing for her true love. It was beautiful. After her performance, there were a couple of choirs and a few more solos. Then, came the instrumental part of the introduction. I other words, I was up.

"And now, 18 year old violinist: Sonic the Hedgehog" The conductor introduced, and the audience clapped.

I walked out on stage in a velvet blue robe that Mr. Wilkins had custom made for me for performances only. I took a bow before the audience and placed by violin on my left shoulder and placed my bow just above it. Then… I began to play. A simple melody at first, but then it began to climax. With more notes added, the audience began to sway a bit to my playing. That filled me with confidence. I went on. I swayed and twirled a bit to the music. It wasn't long before I was dancing. I was taken away by my own playing. It was such a beautiful tune. I couldn't resist. Twirls, sways, bows, and I had even jumped. I was so happy. So happy. I felt like I had finally found a home. Like with viola. I miss that violin. None-the-less. I danced to my piece, and the audience loved it. As soon as the song ended, they cheered clapped and whistled even louder than before! I smiled, and took a bow. Then, I exited the stage.

That was all I had to do. Last up was "Lady Rose" as it read on the programs handed out. I couldn't believe my own ears when she sang. It sounded even more amazing than Blaze! Like an angle. A beautiful, graceful, and all gorgeous melody escaped her lips as she sung on. Then came the high notes. I was afraid that she wouldn't be able to reach them. She proved me wrong. She hit them with ease. Like a violin sounded almost. It was at that moment I was in love with her. No, not just because of her wonderful voice, but because of how much of a wonderful person she was. She made my heart sing. A beautiful, beautiful woman. Her song ended, and she exited the stage. I met her near the curtains.

"Ms. Amy! I had never heard such a wonderful voice in all my life! You truly do represent The Golden Voice." I complimented her, while blushing.
"Oh, my… thank you Mr. Sonic. Same to you as well. Your violin playing took my breath away. And very good choreography. Did you practice that as well?" She asked.
"No, Ms. Rose. I-I guess I just… made it up as I went along… Once you get the feel of the music, it isn't that hard." I answered.
"N-NO KIDDING?! You mean to tell me that that wasn't a dance routine?!" She looked very amazed.
"No ma'am, I just danced as I went along. If I told you otherwise, I'd be lying to you." I said as honest as I could.
"Amazing Mr. Sonic! You are quite the talented one. Hmhm." She giggled.
I blushed. How was I suppose to tell her that I was in love with her? She's the lead singer of the WHOLE OPERA house for crying out loud! 'Oh… is hopeless!' I thought.
"Mr. Sonic?"
A sweet voice broke my thought process.
"Ah… sorry… I kind of drifted off. Forgive me."
"Hmhm. Oh, that's quite alright, darling."
"Uh… Ms. Rose?" I asked nervously.
"What?"
"OH! Well, since your last name is rose… I sort 'a thought that… that I – it would b-be appropriate to call y-you that… THAT IS if your alright with it… Ms. Amy…" I was so nervous. Just talking to this woman made me uneasy.
"Haha! Your so funny, Mr. Sonic! Hmhm… just "Rose" is fine."
"Well, alright then…" I took her hand. "Rose…"
She blushed. I felt like this was a good time to tell her.

I took her hand and led her outside in the garden. I looked straight into her beautiful green eyes.
"Rose?"
"Yes, Sonic."
"I just wanted to tell you that… I… I…" I was a bit nervous.
"What is it?"
"I have known you for some time now, and I feel like… like I…"
"Yes?"
"I… I lo-"
DING-DING-DING-DING

That was the opera house clock. It was midnight.

"OH MY! I must be getting to bed now… I have vocal lessons early in the morning." She said, rather alarmed.
"Ah… I see." I lowered my head.
"But, what was it you wanted to tell me, Mr. Sonic?" She encouraged me to continue.
"Well… I… Y-you know, let's just continue this conversation tomorrow night. Same time?" I asked
"Uh, how about an hour early. So I don't have to rush to bed. Hehe…"
"Oh, yes… that would be best, I suppose."
"Ha. You think you can hold that thought till then? Hmhm…" She giggled again. I found it cute when she giggled.
"Haha. Y-yes. Of course. Till then…" I bent down and kissed the top of her gloved hand. "Ms. Rose".
"Oh… yes, well… Good evening to you Mr. Sonic." She curtsied, and then waltzed off.
"Ah…" I sighed. Then, I went to my room myself.

A clam night with a calm though at hand. Nothing could ruin it. Nothing. Little did I know, I was being watched by piercing red eyes from the other side of my mirror.

The Phantom of the Opera is there… inside my mind?

Maybe…
